EPILOGUE

One Month Later

We moved out of the house two days after India showed up. It was ok when it was just the two of us and there was no logical reason for King to come after us again. But it was too obvious a hideout when there was a guarantee that he’d be gunning for our blood.

We ended up migrating to a small town on the eastern border of Arkansas. There are more redneck, bigoted, bible thumpers here than I ever believed possible, but at least they don’t pull the car over to shoot the shit with a total stranger. And I’ve yet to be offered moonshine, even though that’s one stereotype I was hoping would actually pan out.

Maddox and I found another garage to work at, and India looks positively fucking priceless in her small-town grocer’s apron. We’re not rolling in the green, but we have pretty simple tastes.

Mostly, each other. We rarely do anything that doesn’t, at some point, end up with the three of us naked and using Christ’s name in vain.

I know King will find us eventually. I think that knowledge makes every minute together more electric and exciting.

There are all sorts of clichés about living like there is no tomorrow, and it turns out when you know someday in your foreseeable future, you’re likely to wake up dead, life really does get more colorful.

We’re not just sitting on our thumbs, waiting for the end to come. We’ve been doing our own recon.

Maddox has his guy back in Memphis tracking the club. They’re looking for us, but he hasn’t seen any indication that they’re close to finding us.

We’ve been scoping out the clubs in the state too. Our allegiance to the Blackhawk Raider’s still runs too deep in our blood to consider patching into any of the major clubs. It would just be too much of a betrayal, even if they did let us in.

There are gangs here too. We’ve been tracking them. Nothing we want to get involved in, but it’s good to know who’s liable to create trouble or be a potential ally.

We’ve talked about starting our own club. Recruiting fresh protection that we can count on. Maybe even starting new traditions, with India being part of the leadership. She was born to lead in a way that neither Maddox or I have ever been primed for.

No existing club would even consider starting a charter with a female member, let alone a woman President, but King started the Raiders on his own. I think we could start with a clean slate.

The only thing stopping us is knowing that we’d have to act quick. We’d have to establish strong allies and get a full roster of members almost instantly. Because the moment word gets out that there’s a new club in town, King will know it’s us.

And he’ll be on the road to put an end to it before the ink heals on our new tats.
